Fibre Technician Polokwane

Key Performance Objectives:

  • Assist the Managed Services team with day to day maintenance on your fibre routes
  • Identification of weak spots in the network that are high risk
  • Protect weak spots until it can be rectified, not allowing access
  • Rectify/ remedy cutting over cables and/or cutting in new joints
  • Maintain shortest timelines between temporary and permanent repairs
  • Territory Management
  • All breaks in the area to be resolved within the set SLA agreement (4 hours)
  • Maintenance on HH and route on a daily basis (Cleaning , numbering, slack management)
  • Weekly route patrols
  • Adhoc link build projects as per contractual agreement with clients
  • Always ensure that all work carried out is within the required H&S legislative requirements and/or as per the approved site-specific file
  • Interface with all stakeholders (Internal clients & External clients, subcontractors, engineers and suppliers)
  • Adhere to and ensures that the project delivers the solution, remains within budget, is delivered on time, while achieving quality criteria and maintaining client satisfaction
  • Demonstrates adequate team leadership, motivation, ability and business acumen. They should have a good understanding of, responsibility for and ability in all aspects of the full life-cycle of the assigned projects
  • Ensures that communication skills are demonstrated, fluent both in verbal or written form and in compiling reports
  • Is responsible to keep safely all project contractual data (SHEQ File) for reference as and when required. The responsibility includes creation and collection of project records of all site activities and conditions as per internal QMS requirements. Records typically include the following:
      • Daily Site Diary
      • Daily Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification
      • Ensure on-site induction of visitors to site Safety Meeting
      • Weekly vehicle inspection
      • Ensure updates of Tools and Vehicle Log Sheets
      • Time Sheets
      • Submit of all fault reports and inspections done

Qualification

  • Matric or equivalent
  • Registration as an FOA Splicer is an advantage
  • A tertiary qualification is advantageous

Job Requirements

  • 3 years’ technical experience in the Optical Fibre environment (Fibre Maintenance)
  • Computer literate
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must have knowledge of test equipment (OTDR) and Health and Safety
  • Required to work extended hours and on weekends and public holidays should the need arise due to operational requirements
  • Incumbent will be required to undergo relevant medicals and eye tests to be fit and proper for onsite duties
