Wireless Hybrid Technician

Key Performance Objectives

Wireless Responsibilities:

  • Interface with coordinators, management, Logistics to manage the work successfully
  • Ensure a high quality of workmanship includes:
    • Installation (Radio’s, antenna’s, router and other devices)
  • Fault finding and resolving faults. (Maintenance)
  • Conduct Site surveys
  • Ensure accurate documentation of planning surveys
  • Mange site materials and deliverables
  • Daily Adherence to administrative duties (including timesheet submission, project feedback, material control and expenditure control)

Fibre Responsibilities:

  • Identification of weak spots in the network that are high risk
  • Protect weak spots until it can be rectified, not allowing access
  • Rectify/ remedy cutting over cables and/or cutting in new joints
  • Maintain shortest timelines between temporary and permanent repairs
  • Perform splicing and repairs on optical cables
  • Perform a variety of tasks including operating tools and equipment used for installation and testing of fiber optic networks.

Transmission Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance of fibre networks and transmission equipment
  • Perform Remote Hand Support (RHS)
  • Familiar with the use of various test equipment, e.g. OTDR, Transmission Analyzers, Optical power meters, etc.
  • Systems level trouble shooting on fiber optic telecommunications transmission equipment

Qualification

  • Matric
  • Fibre Optic Association (FOA) certified
  • Minimum qualification is a National diploma N6, S4, T3 in electrical light-current/electronics engineering or similar
  • DWDM certification is an advantage
  • Radwin/Huawei or any other Radio training
  • Any technical tertiary qualification is advantageous

Experience:

  • 5-7 years’ experience in telecommunication roles,
  • Experience in Wireless, Fibre maintenance and Transmission.
  • Radio frequency (RF) installation work experience a must, preferably within the GSM industry
  • Knowledge of Optical test instruments, Transmission devices and configurations.
  • Strong analytical skills for troubleshooting and diagnostics.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach.
  • Computer literate
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experienced in compiling reports and diagnosis of faults
  • Technical knowledge of DWDM based optical transmission systems
  • Extensive experience in transmission equipment, fibre optic splicing and testing.

Job Requirement

 Must be able and willing to do standby

  • Health and Safety on site and adherence to the law regarding Health and Safety
  • Sound understanding of DWDM, SDH transmission systems
  • Experienced in compiling reports and diagnosis of faults
  • Familiar with the use of various test equipment, e.g. OTDR, Transmission Analyzers, Optical power meters, etc.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and learn the use of new test equipment
  • Knowledge of computers and data communications. IP network experience a plus
  • Daily Risk Assessment and Hazard Identification
  • Submit of all fault reports and inspections done
  • To comply with any further instructions or requirements of a reasonable nature that may be given by senior management from time to time
